Purpose of research: Experimental development
The goal of the “Data protection information portal” innovation plan is to support the rights of consumers to obtain information from companies in compliance with Section 34 of the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG), while simultaneously supporting companies in processing information queries. Based on questionnaires and with the participation of an advisory board, an overall concept for an information portal has been developed. For companies, service packages are available that will enhance corporate image in terms of data protection, and provide process support for the handling of information queries. These services, which will be paid by the companies, are to provide the economic basis for long-term operation of the portal. The requirements of different interest groups for an information portal were investigated during the project. Business, IT technical, and legal requirements were all taken into consideration, and strategies for marketing as well as trust and transparency were worked out. On that basis, a laboratory prototype of the portal was created.
