Project code: 0313388
Contract period: 01.02.2005 - 31.01.2008
Budget: 909,465 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research

FERTILINK is a consortium investigating molecular mechanisms of fertility problems in cattle. In this species, more than 40% of embryonic losses occur between day 8 and day 17 of pregnancy. This high embryonic mortality rate has enormous economic implications, increasing the calving interval and retarding genetic progress. To systematically analyze the cross-talk between preimplantation embryos and endometrium as well as functional changes of the endometrium during the estrous cycle, temporal and spatial changes of the transcriptome and proteome of the bovine endometrium will be analyzed at different stages of early pregnancy and during the estrous cycle. Differentially regulated mRNAs and proteins will serve as the basis for the establishment of diagnostic arrays, which can be applied for endometrial biopsies and will be important for differential diagnosis of fertility problems.
