The international research consortium ANTIGONE aims at improving detection and countermeasures of / against infectious agents that may arise as causes of future pandemics in humans. To this end, projects at FLI focus on EHEC strain O104:H4, newly emerged in 2011 as the cause of a severe human outbreak, and Coxiella burnetii, the causative agent of Q fever. Goal is a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the interaction of the pathogens with different (reservoir) hosts.
