As part of the "Organic Farming" Special project at DLG-Feldtage in 2018, a separate organic farming exhibition area on a parcel of land that had been organically farmed for a number of years was integrated into the exhibition structure for the first time in the 30-year history of DLG-Feldtage, the leading German trade fair for modern arable farming and crop production. Current topics concerning organic crop production for farms already managed on an organic basis and those interested in switching to organic farming were shown in practice and discussed in this project.
Companies, organisations, associations and institutions had the opportunity to present themselves on the test field, in the outdoor area or in the machine demonstrations.
The presentations by the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE), the Federal Information Centre Agriculture (BZL) and the organic demonstration farms rounded off what was on offer. In a subsequent forum, current issues in organic farming were presented by experts and practitioners and then discussed with the visitors. Distributors of organic products had the opportunity to present themselves and come into contact with visitors and farmers. Cultivation strategies for the production of organic wheat were discussed and opinions exchanged between farming associations, advisors, scientists and farmers as part of the European organic wheat cultivation comparison.
The live demonstration of modern hacking and harrowing technology on the field and an organic beet meeting point rounded off the programme.
