In 2018 extreme weather conditions caused severe damages in the forests especially of Northern Germany. Winter storms and summer drought followed by a massive bark beetle infestations resulted in fatal losses for many forest owners. There is a short term need for new strategies to minimize these losses by improved measures for salvaging the timber, transporting it efficiently, and for making optimal use of it in the forest industries. In addition, of course, the selection and propagation of more stress resistant trees for reforestion is necessary. During the one-day conference the current situation will be analysed, including the international forest products market and the forest pest development. To spread the knowledge and to find and promote the solutions practicioners, scientists, and policy makers will be invited as speakers and as participants of the conference.
