With the introduction of the EEG 2016/2017 amendment, a new phase of the energy transition has recently started. The amendment specifically aims at a system change from the feed-in tariff model to the tendering procedure. This competitive change not only met with supporters. Various critics feared that the planned measures would hinder the further expansion of renewable energies and the achievement of the Paris climate protection targets as well as jeopardize the labor market. Today, three years after the introduction of the amendment, the question arises as to whether these predictions have been confirmed and to what extent the competition change has indeed affected renewables and bioenergy in particular as the most important renewable source of energy. In addition to the EEG amendment, the bioeconomy also plays an increasingly important role in the further development of bioenergy. Due to the constant development of new raw materials, manufacturing processes and technologies, energy storage methods, as well as the symbiosis of energetic and material recycling of biogenic residues, especially the material potential of the biogenic residues should be exploited to create innovative, internationally competitive bio-based products. In response to these latest developments, the upcoming Rostock Bioenergy Forum focuses on the further development of a sustainable bioeconomy. The focus here is on sustainability in the production, provision, and processing of renewable raw materials and biogenic residues, the development of new bio-based products and bioenergy sources as well as social dialogue. These include various topics such as sustainable material flow management, the conservation of resources, innovative conversion processes, decentralization, the development of recycling potentials of residues, the development of efficient heat supply concepts and sector coupling. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania but also in other federal states, there are already good examples.
