Collaborative project: Evaluation of the humus- and nutrient-fertilizer value of organic residues, subproject 1 (RESTorg)
Project
Project code: 22410618
Contract period: 01.02.2019
- 31.01.2022
Budget: 573,037 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: organic residues, humus and fertilizer impact, biogas production, renewable ressources
The proposed research project will assess the humus- and fertilizer-value of organic residues with a particular focus on residues from biogas production. Primary data on chemical and biochemical characteristics of residues will be related to the humus- and fertilizer-value derived from incubation studies and pot experiments under controlled conditions and field experiments. Furthermore, the effect of environmental conditions on the humus-carbon dynamics, and the humus-related nitrogen and phosphorus dynamics in soil will be determined with the aid of various models. On the basis of the primary data collected in this project and results from modelling, a quantitative assessment of the humus- and fertilizer value will be conducted and a standardized methodology will be elaborated.in coordination with the VDLUFA. It is expected that this assessment of fertilizer value and standardization of methods will contribute to improvement of fertilizer recommendations and enhancement of nutrient efficiency in agricultural practice, and will also be useful to inform policy makers.
