Sustainable bee forest - Innovative ideas from forestry to increase the food supply for bees and pollinating insects
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-2022-HE-FWBVPN
Contract period: 01.01.2022
- 31.12.2024
Budget: 400,000 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: forestry, biodiversity, policy and nature conservation/management, climate change
The traces of climate change are already clearly visible in the Hessian forest. Numerous forest areas have been so severely affected by damage such as drought and beetle infestation that they need to be reforested. In this context, the forests of the future should be as well adapted as possible to the changing climatic and ecological conditions. The aim of the project is to test the extent to which habitats with a high ecological value for flower-pollinating insects, such as bees, can be created through a special selection of trees, shrubs and herbs. Ecological and economic goals are agreed upon so that the effort of increasing biodiversity is also financially worthwhile for forest owners.
