C02-neutral agricultural products - ecological and automated for the region
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-Bay-2023-LGMPPGBKW
Contract period: 01.01.2023
- 31.12.2025
Budget: 112,633 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: farming equipment, plant production and horticulture, climate change
The aim of the project is to conceptualise an indoor farm that supplies the region with its agricultural products and is as CO2-neutral and sustainable as possible. The indoor farm will also be energy neutral and as automated as possible in order to increase the added value of the products. Challenges such as water scarcity, food security, land waste and long transport routes are also addressed. Compared to conventional cultivation, indoor farming can save a lot of water (up to 90% depending on the crop and type of irrigation). The project will also examine the possibility of using rainwater exclusively. The conversion of vacant buildings and spaces to agricultural operations such as old stables, slurry pits, etc. will also be examined. Furthermore, this system offers the expansion of the seasonal supply of native plants, which are no longer imported over long distances.
