Collaborative project: Development of new raspberry breeding clones with improved resistance to cane diseases for German fruit production, Subproject 1
Project
Project code: 2814IP014, JKI-ZGO-08-4185
Contract period: 01.04.2016
- 31.03.2019
Budget: 212,560 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: raspbeery, breeding programm, QTL-mapping
The aim of the collaborative project between the Julius Kühn-Institute (JKI), the Beck’s Obsthof GbR and Elsner PAC Jungpflanzen was to develop new raspberry breeding clones with improved resistance to cane diseases. Therefore, existing cultivars and breeding clones were tested for their cultivation suitability in a production trial at Beck’s Obsthof GbR. In parallel, new breeding material was developed at JKI. Virus-free plant material of selected breeding clones was established at Elsner PAC Jungpflanzen and delivered to Becks Obsthof GbR for testing. A joint evaluation of the breeding material was done by a newly established cultivar-testing panel, and fruit degustation was carried out at Elsner PAC Jungpflanzen. An additional aim was the development of molecular markers, which will allow for selection of resistant seedlings. A locus for glaucosity (waxy bloom) was detected on chromosome 2.
