Collaborative project: ‘Water mark’ system for the control of products with a regional label by means of the analysis of stable isotopes – the implementation of a field test – Subproject 1
Project
Project code: 2819102413
Contract period: 01.08.2013
- 31.03.2015
Budget: 131,630 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
The overall objective is to establish the water mark as an instrument for nationwide use to ensure that statements on the origination of foodstuffs are correct. The current project is intended to create the requirements for using the method nationwide on the basis of the following results: 1. implementation of a field test with the water mark in one of the Federal States; 2. development of a concept for the use all over Germany. In a first step, a standardised procedure for sampling is developed to ensure that the analytical results are commensurable. All in all, about one thousand samples of the products wheat, soy, eggs, pork, cherries, apples, milk, carrots and potatoes, or products being processed from these, will be drawn as reference samples, blank samples or field samples and then analysed. Subsequently, the results will be evaluated and interpreted. In a further step, a concept for the integration of isotope analytics into the already existing control and assurance systems of companies and inspection bodies will be developed. Based on the outcome, a concept of a data bank for the administration and evaluation of the sampling data and analytical results will be developed.
