Control of pests and pathogens affecting fruit crops
Project
Project code: JKI-AG-08-1146
Contract period: 01.01.2014
- 28.02.2018
Purpose of research: Applied research
Aim of this research project is to improve possibilities to reduce the risks caused by (new) pests and pathogens in fruit crops. Trade globalization has facilitated the introduction and spread of organisms harmful to plants. As an example, Drosophila suzukii, has been introduced into Europe. Although only recently introduced, serious damages have been reported in a number of fruits. In addition, there is a number of other pests or pathogens of Plant Health concern (quarantine) affecting fruit production. The research of the proposed project will look for solutions to control such pests and reduce further damage. The identification of pathways is also an important aspect for the prevention of further damage by new pests on fruit crops. D. suzukii, Pseudomonas syringae actinidiae and Xanthomonas arboricola will be used as case studies. Within the project, pest risk analyses will be conducted for these pests.
