Development of a fast analytical method for genetic and regional origin of different Vanilla planifolia varieties by simultaneous quantification of vanillin and vanillin-glycoside in fresh and dried capsules of Vanilla planifolia
Project
Project code: JKI-ÖPV-08-1324
Contract period: 01.09.2015
- 31.10.2016
Purpose of research: Applied research
The Institute for Ecological Chemistry, Plant Analysis and Stored Product Protection investigates different aspects of plant breeding, cultivation and plant protection in interdisciplinary approaches. In cooperation with other institues of the JKI studies on the metabolism of cultivated plants were performed using vibrational spectroscopic and chromatographic methods. The main objective of these investigations is the improvement of quality of selected agricultural and horticultural products. Therefore, fast and non-target methods like near- and mid-infrared spectroscopy methods were applied allowing fast and simultaneous determination of numerous plant metabolites. The aim of that project is firstly the evaluation of the genetically and regionally differences in the plant material of Vanilla planifolia and secondly the development of a quantification method for determination of vanillin and its glycoside in fresh and fermented capsules of V. planifolia. The plant material will be delivered directly from Madagascar, where production and export of vanilla plays one important source of income for that developing country. That project is seen as preliminary and basic work for a further EU-project, JPI (Joint Programme Initiative), which should improve the cooperation of research institutes and business companies.
