Collaborative project: Remote sensing of weed infestations (REMWEED) - subproject 3
Project
Project code: 2815704115
Contract period: 01.06.2016
- 31.07.2019
Budget: 63,386 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
For an improved weed control which is adapted to the current situation in the field, the farmer needs information about the weed infestation to specifically adjust the management of weed control. In the project REMWEED tools are developed to determine the weed infestation spatially. For a site-specific control the knowledge about the spatial distribution of weed densities it is essential to derive application maps for an adaptable and effective weed control management. Processes are developed to capture plant parameters with remote sensing images and methods. Full-area capture in 3D aims at high ground resolution and precise geocoded measurements. UAS (unmanned aerial systems) are used to derive georeferenced images of complete fields. Further investigations focus on the role of additional information, such as on the phenological timing and stages of development, for the specification of weed infestation situations. Parameters will be derived from multi-temporal measurements during the vegetation period, first, to identify the weed infestation and effectiveness of control measures, second, to provide criteria for an optimised planning of measurement campaigns. AP1: Field trials AP2: Remote sensing data acquisition with UAS AP3: Image processing techniques AP4: Derivation of weed scientific parameters AP5: Derivation of application maps AP6: Evaluation
