Appropriate organic feeding of poultry - key aspect: new sources of Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)

Project

Project code: 2811OE099
Contract period: 01.01.2017 - 31.12.2019
Budget: 418,971 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: Vitamin B2, Poultry feed

The goal of the project is the development of a production process for a riboflavin-rich animal feed. Feeding trials with breeding hen and broiler shall show the suitability and acceptability. Storage tests are made for long term viability studies. Sub-Goals are: Development of an efficient biotechnology process for riboflavin under commercial conditions according to EU organic rules. Projections for long term viability stability of the riboflavin-rich animal feed in premixes and feed preparations. Feeding trials should show whether the new developed riboflavin-rich feed product from Agrano is equivalent with riboflavin sources currently used in terms of acceptance, animal health, physiological and agronomic performance Identification of the most suitable microorganism strain for an organic production of Riboflavin. Development of an optimized process for producing a fermentation culture containing a Riboflavin concentration of > 200mg/l Optimization of Riboflavin production on a pilot scale Preparation of the raw materials for the feed components for the feeding trials Processing (drying) of the fermentation suspension Development of a gentle drying method of the riboflavin suspension into a product with dry matter > 92 % Long term viability studies Determining the rate of degradation of riboflavin in developed riboflavin-rich feed, premix and finished feed under different storage conditions. Summary of statements for shelf life and recommended storage conditions of the finished product.
