Project code: 2817902515
Contract period: 07.10.2016 - 31.12.2019
Budget: 386,979 Euro
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment

The aspects of animal-based and environmentally responsible pig farming have been the focus of social and political discussions for many years. However, it often lacks appropriate methods that are suitable for objectively describing and evaluating the current situation. The aim was to develop a decision support system that enables a systematic and objective assessment of the animal welfare situation in pig fattening farms. The analysis consists of an upstream screening phase, the recording of husbandry-, feeding- and management-related operating data as well as an individual animal scoring. For the evaluation, the collected data is bundled in the digital assistance system. Defined target and limit values make it possible to identify weak points in husbandry and management. Finally, pig farms are supported in improving the animal welfare situation by deriving specific recommendations for action.
