Purpose of research: Applied research

The aim of the project is to determine the market size of the German organic market in food retailing and 'other retail outlets', i.e. in bakeries, butcher shops, farm shops, mail order business or health food stores. This identification will be done in several steps. Firstly the key accounts in the German retail market will be surveyed about their organic sales values. Then household and tradepanel data of GfK and Nielsen will be compared. In the long run a panel of key accounts should be established. Another work package collects data on the sales values of all 'other sales channels' such as bakeries, butcher shops, farm shops, mail order business or health food stores. For the first time the numer of these shops and their sales will be collected. Another work package collects data on the health food store with the help of BioVista trade panel data.
