Practical use of a direct injection system for site specific application of pesticides

Project

Project code: JKI-A-08-1241
Contract period: 01.04.2016 - 31.10.2017
Purpose of research: Experimental development

In large-scale field trials the use of a direct injection system for site specific application of pesticides in agricultural practice is tested. A prototype of a field sprayer with a direct injection system was developed as part of a joint project between the company Herbert Dammann GmbH and the Julius Kühn- Institute. This framework enables a real-time dosing of plant protection products and water from separate containers with direct mixing before the application without residual amounts. With this direct injection system, a site-specific application of individual PPPs is applicable. The technical implementation into professional devices is a great challenge. In the project, the user interface has to be simplified and further improved by the intensive use of practice. Results show a high accuracy in the working range of the selected dosing pumps by means of test bench measurements and field tests for weed control. The field tests show that the developed field sprayer for the direct injection of plant protection products can be worked without delay with up to three different herbicides in each case in a site-specific manner. The application accuracy was also given at different speeds. Field tests for the site-specific weed control in winter wheat demonstrate the applicability of the system under practical conditions and enable a precise application of various herbicides.
