Project code: 50EE1307
Contract period: 01.06.2013 - 30.06.2017
Budget: 297,061 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

The application of the EO-LDAS-prototype, a data assimilation scheme of Sentinel-2 satellite data, aims at improving the monitoring of the vegetated land surface with satellite observations. EO-LDAS is an acronym for Earth Observation - Land Data Assimilation System. The basic approach is to combine satellite data with different ground measurements via a modeling system in such a way that it can be used for calculating the regional budgets of green house gases. In this project, the EO-LDAS-prototype data is used for the first time in a practical application at the Gebesee agricultural site (ICOS-D). The multi-year campaigns of vegetation parameters and the continuous eddy covariance flux measurements (CO2, H2O) allow to evaluate the EO-LDAS-prototype as well as to develop and calibrate the modeling system. The project EO-LDAS is led by the department of Earth Observation (Friedrich-Schiller University Jena).
