Collaborative project: Development of an innovative seed treatment technology for cereals without dust abrasion to reduce risk for environment and users. Subproject 2 (INTEGRA)
Project
Project code: 2814905515
Contract period: 01.07.2017
- 28.02.2021
Budget: 131,571 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Seed treatment is an application of plant protection products onto seeds prior to sowing. The active ingredients (a. i.) of the seed treatment product protect seeds and young plants in the soil. Seed treatment is an environmentally friendly way of using plant protection products and is very precise compared to applications with a boom sprayer, which is a large advantage of this method. However, when the seed treatment layer is subjected to mechanical stress small active ingredients containing dust particles can be abraded. This seed treatment dust may cause negative effects in the environment and to machine users. So the aim of this project is to reduce the a. i. dust emission to the environment while sowing cereals. Therefore an active ingredient free cover-layer has to be developed, which protects the a. i. containing seed treatment layer against abrasion. A second important step is to develop or rather modify seed treatment application technology which allows the application of the new a. i. free cover-layer.
