Project
Project code: JKI-OW-08-1201
Contract period: 01.02.2017
- 31.12.2020
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
The xylem-restricted bacterium Xylella fastidiosa is a quarantine pest for Europe. It has been introduced to Italy where it is a severe threat to olive production causing already damage on tenthausands of hectares. Since the pathogen infects several hundreds of wild an cultivated plants including important forest trees, fruit crops and grapewine it is of high risk for European forestry and agriculture. However, climatic conditions and the vector situation may modify the risk level. The aim of the project is the collection of data on the biology, genetics and epidemiology of X. fastidiosa in Europe as a base for the development of prevention strategies and management concepts.
