Reference materials for validation and quality assurance of avian influenza diagnostics
Project
Project code: 2813100306
Contract period: 01.09.2006
- 31.08.2009
Budget: 361,710 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Reference materials (virus strains, virus RNA, antisera) are required for both, acute diagnostic investigations as well as the development and validation of new diagnostic methods. In addition, epidemiological investigations on the origin and modifications of and the relationship between pathogens call for defined reference materials. This archive for avian influenza (AI) should include all H5N1 virus isolates, AIV reference strains, sera, monoclonal antibodies, genome samples and substantial genome sequences as well as organ and swab samples of infected animals. The reference materials will be collected within the framework of the diagnostic activities of the national reference laboratory, of wild bird monitoring, by targeted animal studies and by exchange with other working groups. The basis for a successful wide-range use is the exact characterisation, storage and archiving of the reference materials by means of a laboratory management system (LIMS).
