Recycling of fermentation residues and production of lignin in agriculture
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-BR-2016-LGMEPD01
Contract period: 01.01.2016
- 31.12.2018
Budget: 84,920 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: farming equipment, energy, product/service, marketing/supply chain
Increasing the efficiency of existing, agricultural biogas plants by supplying excess digestate in a two-step process consisting of the so-called AFEX process (ammonium Fibre Extraction), ie the enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose to monomeric sugars and the subsequent conversion of the monomeric sugars in biogas and separation of lignin for further marketing. The objective of this project is to develop an economical, practicable process for the production of lignin for new and existing biogas plants. The process consists of an innovative efficiency module. Furthermore, derived from the project objective, in this process no waste and no emissions shall emerge. In digestate there are still substances that can be used by chemical and biological conversion for biogas production and thus make the entire process more efficient. The separated lignin can be used as a chemical commodity.
