Collaborative project: Development of an intelligent (packaging) system for a sensor-based prediction of the actual expiration date of food - subproject 3 (IntelliDate)
Project
Project code: 281A108616
Contract period: 01.04.2018
- 30.06.2020
Budget: 24,877 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: food safety, milk, resource protection, resource efficiency, articles of daily use, packaging, food quality, data collection, labelling, sensor technology
The project focuses on the development of a concept for the whole value chain of ESL-Milk by creating an algorithm for predicting the actual expiration date of food. The algorithm is planned to be based on a variety of quality tests during real-life storing conditions, so that the life period of ESL-Milk depending on external influence factors (i.e. temperature, light intensity etc.) can be determined. This can be used as a starting point for the programming of a smartphone app, which can show e.g. the current state, the predicted actual expiration date, the origin and the ingredients of edibles to the user in a compact and individual manner. Substantial contents of the project are the specific determination of the temperature's influence on the life period of ESL-Milk, the development of an algorithm for predicting the actual expiration date, the development of a returnable sensor label for collecting the necessary data, the development of a cloud-based smartphone app for the evaluation and analysis of the recorded datasets as well as the compilation of a guideline for the practical use of the developed system, combined with an economic efficiency calculation based on the technical project's results.
