subproject: Preparation of dairy processing for modified energy systems within the energy transition towards renewables. Implementation by energy efficiency measures and use of flexibility of electrical components - subproject 5 (BlueMilk)

Project

Project code: 281A108716
Contract period: 06.05.2019 - 30.06.2021
Budget: 12,486 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Keywords: process quality, energy, energy efficiency, resource protection, resource efficiency

"BlueMilk investigated areas in dairies to increase efficiency and flexibility as well as their interaction - called system efficiency: Flexibility in cold stores in the cold chain results from adjusting the electrical power of the compressors. Emission reduction arises in electricity purchase and by adjusting truck temperature in logistics. Efficiencies potentials in cleaning systems include adding insulation, preheating lines with waste heat, and utilizing waste fluid heat. Adjusting cleaning times brings flexibility, but represents an interference with production. Site-specific efficiency potentials of the dairy were determined, heat utilization concepts for exploiting the potential were developed and included in models for investigating flexibility concepts using CHP technology and supplementary technologies. A concept with a 2 MWel CHP unit without an electric boiler and without an absorption chiller with suitable heat utilization represents a good flexibility solution with low investment costs for the site."
