Hemp for industrial uses: current state of knowledge and developments (HanfStoff)
Project
Project code: G2/KS/18/05
Contract period: 01.03.2019
- 31.12.2019
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: hemp, renewable resources, cultivation, crop rotation, industrial usage
Since 1996 it’s allowed to cultivate industrial hemp again. Hemp belongs to one of the oldest crops in Bavaria. Therefore hemp is well adapted to our soil and climate conditions. Hemp cultivation has many ecological benefits, like more diversity in a crop rotation, no use of pesticides and a low fertilizing level. Moreover, hemp offers the chance to generate high valued farm products like fibres (textiles, insulation material), seeds (food, oil) and blossom/leaves (tea, CBD). But there are many knowledge gaps like the legal situation and outdated recommendations for managing the cultivation of hemp. Therefore the project tries to make a first contribution to close those gaps.
