Superfood made in Saxony-Anhalt – Climate resilient cultivation of innovative crops and development of innovative and health-promoting foods
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-SA-2019-LPTBBVLI
Contract period: 01.01.2019
- 31.12.2021
Budget: 685,139 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: farming practice/activity, soil, biodiversity, food industry, product/service, marketing/supply chain
In the wake of climate change, new cultivation systems and crops are needed to make agricultural production more climate-resilient in the future. For this reason and against the background of increasing drought stress in agriculture, the project 'Future Foods - Superfood made in Saxony-Anhalt' is testing the cultivability of drought-resistant crops that have not yet been cultivated in Saxony-Anhalt and establishing new sustainable value chains up to the development of marketable health-promoting foods. At the same time, this should contribute to climate protection (adaptation and mitigation). Regarding the arable crops concerned, the focus is on site-adapted varieties or new crops from other arid regions of the world. The project is practice-oriented and is intended to put new as well as already acquired knowledge from research into practice. It serves to improve soil management, preserve biodiversity, better integrate producers into the food chain and adapt to the effects of climate change through targeted measures and improved management methods.
