The aim of the project is to investigate the topic of unauthorized pesticide residues in the organic value chain. For this purpose, problem areas along the organic value chain will be analysed in detail and knowledge gaps identified. Based on the results, recommendations for action will be derived and, if necessary, further research requirements will be defined. The specific objectives are the following: WP 2: Risk analysis of unauthorised pesticides and active substances for the organic value chain (DE focus) - Identification of residue causes of unauthorised pesticides and their active substances - Identification of high-risk pesticides and their active substances, potential contamination pathways (qualitative) and unavoidable exposure levels (quantitative) - Analysis of available data on pesticide applications and the environmental contamination with conventional pesticides and their active substances WP 3: Status analysis of data collections of unauthorized pesticide residues in organic products (DE focus) - Identification of required information for the proper evaluation of unauthorized pesticide residues in organic products (along the value chain) - Strength/weakness analysis of existing data collections of residue or contamination cases with unauthorized pesticides and active substances - Description of further knowledge requirements and suitable data aggregation forms for residue databases WP 4+5: Handling of pesticide residues in organic products by food enterprises and within the framework of organic control (EU + EFTA focus) - Status quo analysis of the current handling of pesticide residues in organic products in various EU + EFTA countries - Evaluation of current procedures and recommendations for action
