ForestValue: Development of comprehensive optimization approaches

Project

Project code: 22027118
Contract period: 01.03.2019 - 28.02.2022
Budget: 193,786 Euro
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
Keywords: forest ecosystems, timber production, renewable ressources

The project (TUM) provides methods and models to quantify, assess and optimize forest ecosystem services (FES) from various shareholder/stakeholder perspectives. The quantification of economic trade-offs is an important aim. We will work with pluralistic valuation approaches, which go beyond a pure economic valuation. These will consider multiple uncertainties and the opportunities of multi-criteria decision making methods. We will build on a comprehensive summary of indicators for FES. Our optimization approaches will be developed based on existing models and parameterized with the data about the indicators for FES. We will aslo give heigh weight for the production of timber and related products. The optimization may well quantify desirable proportuions of economically attractive confierous tree species We will make use of the outcomes from pervious projects, funded by FNR, for example: "Konkurrenz um Holz: Ökologische, soziale und ökonomische Effekte der stofflichen und energetischen Verwertung von Holz".
