Project

Project code: 2818504K18
Contract period: 07.02.2020 - 31.03.2023
Budget: 26,239 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: production of ornamentals, forecast, artificial intelligence, horticulture, data management, occupational health and safety, data collection, digital world

Content of the project is the development and testing of a multi-level, digital management support system for different actors in the value chains of ornamental plants, perennials and cut flowers. This includes for example the design of analysis and forecasting systems for the sale of selected ornamental plants, cut flowers or perennials. These systems are beneficial for companies on the production scale and garden retail trade. The information gained from these systems is used to improve the planning and ordering of goods, what leads to gains in efficiency not only on upstream stages of production and trade but also in logistics. With regard to employees, the aim of the project is to clarify, how digitization in companies affects the working environments of different groups of employees and how they assess the opportunities and risks of an increasing mechanisation of horticulture. To sum up, the following questions are addressed in the proposed project: - How must information systems be designed to adequately describe the heterogeneous structures in supply chains of ornamental plants, perennials and cut flowers? - How can internal and external data of supply chains be used to improve the forecast of sales of ornamental plants, perennials and cut flowers for single companies? - To what extent can sales forecasts be combined with analysis and forecasting approaches that aim to improve planning and optimization of processes in supply chains? - What approaches for optimizing logistics can be derived? - What effects have actual and future developments in automation and digitization on workplace quality and employee satisfaction?
