Collaborative project: Digital management support systems for small and medium-sized enterprises in value chains of ornamental plants, perennials and cut flowers - subproject 13 (PlantGrid)

Project

Project code: 2818504M18
Contract period: 07.02.2020 - 31.03.2023
Budget: 389,028 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Keywords: horticulture, data collection, digital world, occupational health and safety, forecast, production of ornamentals, artificial intelligence, data management

The PlantGrid project aimed to develop a digital management support system for small companies in the value chains of ornamental plants, perennials and cut flowers. The project showed that modern machine learning algorithms can be effectively used for forecasting the sales of individual ornamental plants and the turnover of companies. Additionally, digital tools are helpful for organising logistics and calculating order quantities in retail. Both employers and employees have a positive view on digitalization and automation in horticulture. The data available from the companies has been incorporated into a dashboard that has been developed to facilitate data handling and analysis. However, the use of the dashboard in standard operations is hindered by poorly harmonized interfaces and the high levels of heterogeneity of the available data. Interfaces to the standard merchandise management systems used in horticulture are therefore essential for an automated data flow.
