Project code: Vergabe-Nr. 07/035.1
Contract period: 01.07.2007 - 30.06.2009
Budget: 85,769 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

Actual energy political conditions intensify the interest for the fermentation of energy crops in biogas plots. The reasons are further subsidies from the state, which are given in addition to the already guaranteed payment for the energy production. At the same time structural changes and reorientations take place in typical agricultural regions, as the promotion of product-related production is dropped down in the next decade in favour of area-related payments. Especially in the “Köln-Aachener-Bucht” the discontinuation of the sugar market organisation means, that farmers are in search of alternative economic crops. In these regions renewable vegetable raw materials linked with biogas fermentation seems to be an interesting source for income. Up to now this farms were normally conducted without cattle, so that for biogas plots liquid manure is not available for cofermentation. First experiences with biogas plots, which were conducted only with plant materials show, that the biological process is more sensitive resp. more unstable, so that those plots are difficult to manage. Investigations of the project take up this problem: With the means of an analysis of literature and talks with different manufacturer specific differences between conventional-plots and the plots fed only with plant material should be acquired in the sense of a “state of the art” description. Afterwards two typical biogas plots for the fermentation of exclusively plant-material should be analysed for the period of 9- months in long-term investigations. The aim is to detect mass flow, economics, current state of the plot and special problems concerning the handling. Concluding on the basis of a weak-point analysis and small-scale experiments potentials of the plots should be worked out and realised. Furthermore it should be investigated, if the prozess stability of these plots can be increased by the means of a “Quick-test” to detect the buffering capacity (developer: Dr. Clemens). The final report should give relevant results for the practical use for decision-makers, advisors and farmers.
