Genome analyses of bacteriophages and their host cultures for the assessment of mechanisms of phageresistence.
Project
Project code: MRI-MBT-02-08
Contract period: 01.01.2001
- 31.12.2021
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Based on detailed information on molecular interactions between phage and host cells, systems for the establishing of phage-resistent starter cultures shall be developed.
The genome of phage TP-J34 has been completely sequenced. A mutation was identified in the gene encoding the receptor binding protein, which interferes with the correct assembly of the phage. In a closely related phage (TP-EW) an intron was identified within the gene encoding the phage lysin, the enzym needed for phage release from the cells.
