Collaborative project: Internet of Livestock - Technology transformation from industry 4.0 to livestock farming through small-scale networking of new intelligent sensors and actuators on animals - subproject A (IoL)

Project

Project code: 281C208A19
Contract period: 15.03.2021 - 14.05.2023
Budget: 388,865 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: knowledge transfer, networking, sensor technology, competitiveness, data protection/-security, husbandry techniques, cattle, digital world

The development of production processes in livestock farming is characterized by the use of a wide variety of sensors, robots and communication systems, often as isolated solutions that are difficult to network. The current expert evaluation criticizes the lack of compatibility, insufficient information preparation for decisions and feedback on task completion. With our concept of transforming Industry 4.0 technologies into agricultural animal husbandry - using the example of sustainable livestock farming - our consortium would like to show a solution for this gap in the project. The aim of IoL is the conception, industrial research and experimental testing of a demonstrator system for the small-scale networking and localization of sensors and actuators using new, energy-saving Bluetooth 5.1 technology (BLE_5.1) to higher-level farm management and information systems. The demonstrators are designed for various operating conditions on animals, machines and devices as well as equipment for operators (farmer, herd manager, Insemination, veterinarian, etc.) with configurable sensor parameters. In addition, BLE_5.1 is to be made accessible for bidirectional communication for the control of actuators on animals, machines/devices or at the operator for the first time.
