Collaborative project: Internet of Livestock - Technology transformation from industry 4.0 to livestock farming through small-scale networking of new intelligent sensors and actuators on animals - subproject D (IoL)

Project

Project code: 281C208D19
Contract period: 15.03.2021 - 14.05.2023
Budget: 94,574 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: data protection/-security, sensor technology, competitiveness, cattle, husbandry techniques, digital world, knowledge transfer, networking

The innovative goal of the joint project "Internet of Livestock" (IoL) was the development of new multifunctional wireless sensors for data acquisition and real-time localization of farm animals using Bluetooth 5.1 (BLE_5.1) technology. Within the project, technology maturity level 5 was achieved. The main result is the NECKTAG® multisensor with energy harvesting for attaching to the cow's collar. It measures physical, biological and chemical parameters on animals. Furthermore, BLE_5.1 made it possible for the first time to develop bidirectional communication for the control of actuators on the animal, on machines/devices or at the operator's site (www.iol.farm). The obtained data and results are suitable to detect deviations in behaviour and animal welfare from the biological normal state and for using the standardised IoL-interface for farm management and information systems for the farmers.
