Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: Farming practice/activity, animal husbandry

The project aims at optimising the method of alternative management of sows in farrowing areas in movement pens, in particular to significantly reduce piglet losses after opening the movement pens. The aim is to optimise the installed Combiflex movement pens by implementing new, previously non-existent technical equipment elements. The main focus is to positively influence the lying down behaviour of sows, to be able to modify the piglets' walkways and to adapt the piglet nests. In addition, new management measures which have not yet been established are to be explored to reduce suckling pig losses after opening piglet protection cage.
