PRo-MAPPER Plant Robot for Multidimensional Artificial Phenotyping for Plasma Enhanced Research (PRo-MAPPER)
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-Ni-2021-PPGBSKB
Contract period: 01.01.2021
- 31.12.2023
Budget: 481,054 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: Plant production and horticulture, pest/disease control
The aim of the project is the combination of innovative robotics methods, a multisensory data fusion for phenotyping and plasma-technological approaches to a new overall system for highly automated use in the agricultural sector. This system is intended to enable the efficient use of conventional crop protection measures and nutrient additives significantly earlier than in classical farming systems. In the process, the use of pesticides is to be significantly reduced or avoided through the early application of alternative treatment methods, such as the application of plasma-activated liquids (PAL) or the early removal of infected seedlings. The experiments are carried out in automated growing beds for the crops of sugar beet, chard and lilac. For this purpose, a commercial planting robot, which has been designed for semi-automated seeding, irrigation and weed suppression, will be extended to a multisensory and fully automated system. Machine learning methods are used to develop a model from a suitable set of training data that is capable of performing classification tasks completely autonomously.
