Project code: 2821ERA03J
Contract period: 01.06.2021 - 30.11.2022
Budget: 10,000 Euro
Purpose of research: Networks and research co-ordination
Keywords: agricultural policy, food security, climate (climate relevance, climate protection, climate change), sustainability, policy

The MACSUR Science-Policy Knowledge Forum (MACSUR SciPol) is a follow-up project to MACSUR I and II (https://macsur.eu/) and aims to bridge the gap between research and policy in order to strategically find the answer to the challenges of adaptation and mitigation of climate change in the agricultural and food sector in Europe. The existing MACSUR expertise and the existing network are used to answer the Key Policy Questions in connection with the emission targets of the member states under the Green Deal or the Paris Climate Agreement. The aim is to establish a European forum with a model-generated knowledge synthesis for evidence-based policy support in order to achieve carbon neutrality, adapt to climate change and understand synergies and trade-offs. In a results-oriented manner, the demand side for research-based information (short: politics) is compared with the supply side for model and evaluation results (short: research). This happens within the 4 work packages 'Coordination and Synthesis', 'Adaptation', 'Mitigation' and 'Impact'. The SciPol pursues a transdisciplinary approach with intensive involvement of stakeholders from a coordinated network of scientists, political decision-makers and stakeholders from agriculture, civil society and business. The main result of the pilot project is an established method for scientifically based answering of political questions, which has proven itself in exemplary cases with regard to mitigation and adaptation measures, their effects, synergies and compromises.
