Collaborative project: The goal of this project is the conceptual design and development of a mobile robotics system, which is able to automously gather fruit from open fields - subproject A (RoLand)
Project
Project code: 28DK103A20
Contract period: 01.10.2021
- 30.09.2024
Budget: 1,221,610 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: berry fruit, digital world, AI Artificial Intelligence, agricultural engineering, fruit production, crop production
The goal of the project is the conception and design of a semi-autonomous, mobile robotic system, which is able to autonomously gather fruit. Current robotic system are mostly only deployed in greenhouses. In contrast to that the target scenario of the project is the application of a robot on an open field, including typical environmental influences. Having multiple possible applications in mind, the project attempts to develop a low-cost system, which can be operated also by small or medium sized companies. Large-scale application can be considered by parallel deployment of multiple systems. The focus of the application scenario is on strawberry gathering operations. We purposely selected a delicate soft fruit, which poses different challenges on robotic hardware, perception and manipulation.
