Collaborative project: System to Evolve productive sow herds by statistic, AI and sensor data driven selection of the tribal sows in criss-cross-breeding - subproject B (EVOLECTION)

Project

The "Evolection" project aims to objectify breeding in closed-herd sow farms operating on the principle of crossbreeding and to optimize it by means of an improved selection decision based on mass data automatically collected all over the production process. By means of cloud-based data analysis of performance data collected in sow herds and the mass data analysis of various sensor data of the farm with AI systems (e.g. with artificial, neural networks) an objectively comprehensible and for everyone transparent "gold standard AI" of breeding selection in sow herds by means of crossbreeding will be established. The "breeding nose" of experienced breeders is thus reproduced by software, objectified and made accessible to every practical sow owner via the cloud. New evaluation parameters such as "longevity" and "maternity" take into account society's demand for improving animal welfare (sows could be productive for more than 2 years in the future!) and improve the resource efficiency of pig farming as a whole through the recording and evaluation of feed conversion. With high acceptance of the system due to easy usability from/to the cloud, the breeding performance of the participating cross-breeding sow farms could be increased and their competitiveness increases. By giving the sow farmer the opportunity to change the prioritization of the evaluation parameters within limits, breeding trends are made clear at an early stage and are presented transparently to the interested consumer.
