The "Sustainable Purchasing Assistant" is a research project in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) that aims to promote healthier and more sustainable food consumption. The planned research project "Sustainable Purchasing Assistant" for a Healthier and More Sustainable Food Consumption" aims to support consumers in complex decisions in food shopping. The decision making process, with knowledge based AI elements, can facilitate the sustainable selection of products and provides better orientation in the purchasing environment. The planned project promotes the creation of transparency in the food chain by providing important information on the origin, cultivation and production of food with a 'sustainable shopping assistant' for consumers. Consumer nutrition is the focus of public, economic and social activity. With digital opportunities increasing and consumers becoming more affinity to use, a digital shopping assistant is a modern development. This research project aims to implement a service module that enables user-adapted tips for a more sustainable product choice when purchasing. A sustainability index that takes into account the value chain of a product increases the attractiveness of this application, increases technology acceptance in society and increases the visibility of the importance of sustainable and healthy nutrition. Healthy nutrition and consumer protection, the creation of transparency in the food chain and sustainability are key issues promoted by the "Sustainable Purchasing Assistant".
