ProInsekt - Travelling exhibition on the fascination of insects and their declining population (Endangered Diversity) (ProInsekt)
Project
Project code: JKI-BS-08-0031
Contract period: 01.10.2020
- 30.09.2023
Purpose of research: Public relations
Eight natural history museums have joined forces to design and implement a touring exhibition on the decline of insects in Germany. Five other museums also want to show the exhibition, so the exhibition is planned for 12 stations so far. It will also be available to other institutions throughout Germany. The visualization of the subject matter will be done according to the best museological standards. Original specimens, enlarged models, media stations with 3D scans or 3D stacking photos, videos and computer animations are used. An accompanying book as well as an extensive educational program are planned. At several locations, additional outdoor stations will be set up to demonstrate optimally sown flowering meadows and the best possible design of "insect hotels". Since the project is being developed on a scientific basis, prejudices are to be confirmed or refuted by evidence. The aim is to provide information about natural contexts so that visitors to the exhibition (especially children and young people) are equipped to actively participate in the ongoing discussion about the decline of insects. This requires a balance between a striking, catchy presentation of facts and a factually differentiated communication of the complex interrelationships. The partners have the necessary tools and relevant experience for this task. The Julius Kühn Institute, Institute for Bee Protection is involved as a cooperation partner.
