Project code: JKI-BS-08-0016
Contract period: 01.01.2021 - 31.12.2026
Purpose of research: Applied research

In the project with the acronym "BeesUP", a database and artificial intelligence (AI)-supported digital planning tool for the design of open spaces in urban space for wildlife and beekeeping will be developed. The digital planning tool will be available to all interested parties in the form of a free app and will be able to determine the parameters of land use (e.g. sports, recreation, traffic, gardening) and location (e.g. geographic location, soil, sun exposure, structural heterogeneity) with the species-specific requirements of wild bees (pollen and nectar plants, nesting opportunity, building material, microclimate) and the requirements of the specific pollen and nectar plants (e.g. strategy type, drought resistance) in an intelligent recommendation system. An interactive wild bee identification function is to sensibly expand the functional scope of the digital planning tool as an add-on, generate additional planning-relevant data and increase the circle of users. The BeesUp project is to be linked to the existing cooperation project "Bienenstadt Braunschweig" of the Institute for Bee Protection with the city of Braunschweig. In addition to the cooperation with the city of Braunschweig on the implementation measures on municipal land, the project will use cooperation with numerous companies, associations and organizations for further measure implementations and investigations.
