Purpose of research: Applied research
The German Fruit Genebank (DGO) has the objective to preserve the fruit genetic resources in Germany in the long term and in an efficient way and to ensure their availability for research, breeding as well as orcharding and landscaping purposes. Each cultivar with a DGO mandate is expected to be maintained at least at two different locations to ensure long-term conservation. After the completed second pomological and molecular cultivar determinations for apple and cherry as well as the further processing of the cultivar trueness-to-type for strawberry in the framework of the EU project 'Breeding value', the consequence is the further development of the duplicate build-up in the mentioned networks.
