With regard to climate change, the bio-economy is facing complex challenges, especially in the area of plant and agricultural research. This complexity also poses a challenge for science communication to help different societal actors classify problems and innovative approaches to solving them. In the project, climate adaptation in fruit growing and viticulture is addressed as an example. For this purpose, an interactive online series of Internet broadcasts will be combined with a tasting of apples and wine for every 100 participants. On the one hand, climate adaptation is a particular problem in fruit growing and viticulture due to the breeding efforts involved; innovative techniques such as digitalization and genome editing offer extended approaches to solving this problem. On the other hand, the tasting provides an original, sensory introduction to the topic, which appeals to laypersons but also facilitates the involvement of various actors in the value chain and other multipliers. The broadcasts consist of the tasting, thematic blocks that are deepened by video clips and a panel of experts with scientists and various stakeholders close to the topic, and the active participation of the viewers (questions, comments). The programs present the complexity of the challenges of climate change, but also the innovative approaches to solving them. A third, concluding episode opens up the topic in its broadest sense and discusses the future perspectives of plant and agricultural research, involving representatives from politics and associations. The program is linked to the previous programs by clips and statements. The broadcasts are professionally moderated and produced and enable interactive viewer participation. The recorded broadcasts will continue to be publicly accessible on the web. Participation statistics and feedback from participants will be evaluated.
