Effects of fertilizers on soil microbial N dynamics
Project
Project code: JKI-PB-08-1317
Contract period: 01.01.2021
- 31.12.2023
Purpose of research: Experimental development
The soil microbiome is of central importance for functioning material cycles, soil fertility and plant growth. The aim of the project is to identify effects of fertilizers (mineral fertilizers, organic fertilizers) on the soil microbial community and their function in the N cycle and to discuss these in the context of optimal N supply to plants and soil fertility. For this purpose, the structural and functional diversity of soil microorganisms, as well as soil (Nmin, pH, Corg) and crop parameters (grain and straw yield, C/N analysis) will be recorded using nucleic acid-based investigation methods (16S rRNA gene or ITS sequencing or molecular fingerprint analyses; quantification of functional genes). There are thematic links to the NH3-Min and the Resource project, in which N emissions after fertilizer application are investigated in field trials in each case. In addition, own vessel experiments are set up to quantify N dynamics in microbial hotspots and to model nitrogen fluxes in agricultural soils.
