In recent years there has been a steady demand for organically grown pears. Due to the low domestic pear production and the limited shelf life of the common varieties, the demand for organically produced pears in Germany is currently covered by high imports from other countries. The aim of the project is to holistically develop and optimize the overall strategy in ecological pear production, taking into account the available components. This is intended to make pear cultivation in Germany less risky and more attractive both for organically producing farms and for farm managers interested in conversion, and thus lead to an increase in organic pear production in Germany. By taking a holistic view of the components of the overall system, pesticides should be used in a targeted manner and thus reduced to a minimum. The three pillars of a stable long-term cultivation system consist of the following components: 1. Use and promotion of functional biodiversity 2. Management measures to reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases 3. Input in the form of plant protection products or energy The listed components overlap and can only lead to success if the various management systems are considered holistically.
