Production processes

Project code: EIP-Agri-2022-Ni-LPTT
Contract period: 01.01.2022 - 31.12.2024
Budget: 273,008 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: farming practice/activity, animal husbandry

With the Broilermaststall 2023, a building is being constructed under scientific supervision that creates stable conditions for good animal health. The barn built for the project has double walls. The better insulation compared to conventional barns allows savings in gas, electricity and water consumption. In conventional barns with a single outer shell, cold air currents and moisture often occur and settle in the bedding. Wetness promotes foot ulcers, for example, but also respiratory diseases, because decomposition processes in moist bedding lead to more ammonia in the barn air. In the building constructed and built for this project, a steady inflow of fresh air can be generated. This reduces temperature fluctuations and prevents the litter from becoming damp. Less litter is needed and animal health improves. This means less need for antibiotics, less veterinary costs. Healthy animals absorb their feed better and perform better.
