The project aims to further develop the results of the RegioHuhn and ÖkoGen project for the establishment and use of the cross progeny of the local chicken breeds Ramelsloher, Bielfelder Kennhuhn and Alststeirer with high performance economic lines as parents in organic farming. The planned breeding measures in the nucleus flocks will positively influence the performance of the crossbred progeny. The following objectives are pursued in the project: - Marker-assisted breeding improvement of the nucleus herds. - Population mirroring of the nucleus herds - Selection in the nucleus herds for performance improvement - Establishment of regional value chains
In perspective, the project could also enable the direct use of animal genetic resources in domestic chicken, or the extension of their crossbreeding with external genetics.
