This joint project between the Iranian Fisheries Research Institute (IFSRI) and the Thünen Institute for Fisheries Ecology aims at the development of environmentally friendly feed from sustainable resources, especially locally available components of plant origin.The Islamic Republic of Iran has ambitious plans to expand the aquaculture sector with the aim of improving national production of high-quality animal protein and creating employment opportunities and income in rural regions. The planned expansion of aquaculture production will have a feed requirement in the order of 500,000 t/a. Potential herbal feeds are to be identified in terms of availability and their ingredients. This will be followed by the formulation and testing of appropriate feed mixtures and additives.
